cribbing

i actually hate having to wake up at 4:30 on these freezing january mornings to morning to come to work. but if i think of them as a pattern, it's not too bad.

i  begin with struggling out of bed, my hands and feet like blocks of ice. when i walk out of home into the office car, khairo follows me all the way and actually races after the car while i shout at him to go home. my biggest fear these days is that something will run him over. he's just a stray dog, after all, you know. maybe i'll buy him a belt so people know he belongs in a home.

okay, my journey to work. wind finds a way to my face and hands and knees in the car and i become a ball of sleep and cold. but i'd rather keep going in the car all morning than arrive at work.

then i arrive and begin my franctic search for the one chair in the office that doesn't give me a backache. but it's always war over that one. today, i found it in the pantry. broken :(  and my backache has been growing worse.

the heater (a sin) is a comfort on these mornings. and coffee and hot water. and knowing i can sleep in late tomorrow morning.
