from memory

the sky
is a brief stretch
of grays and orange
from where we stand

kathmandu lights have just come on,
a housewife draws close the curtain
as your hand comes to rest on my shoulder

elsewhere people shout protests,
punctuated by a dog's wine and a cow's call
i say- let's go find out

you say- let's go
but i find the world i know is lost
in the world behind your eyes
-- the one that's full of fury
